Dear TRIO Colleague:

Now that Congress has officially adjourned for its Summer District Work Period, we are pleased to present you with the 2008 Summer Recess Packet.  Members of Congress will be in their home districts and states until September 8; therefore, these next few weeks will provide you with ample opportunities to meet locally with your Representatives and Senators.  With the appropriations process on hold and the November elections fast approaching, we must capitalize on the momentum created by our recent victory in the HEA reauthorization process during this critical period.   

The Summer Recess Packet will arm you with all the information you will need to target your Members of Congress.  In addition to information about relevant legislation, tips for engaging TRIO parents in the advocacy process, and sample letters, we have also provided "New to TRIO" factsheets to help introduce our programs to Members of Congress who may not be familiar with TRIO.  The attached document includes a four-page factsheet for each U.S. state and territory that hosts TRIO programs.  (Simply scroll through the document to find the factsheet for your territory or state.)  The Summer Recess Packet and New to TRIO factsheets are available on the GR Bulletin Board on the COE website.  If you have any difficulty accessing these documents, please e-mail
